What Every Mom Really Wants (and Needs) This Mother’s Day

Give your mom a meaningful gift she'll always remember...

This post: What Every Mom Really Wants this Mother’s Day / Post updated 4/2025

Mother’s Day is just around the corner… if you’re struggling with what to get your Mom, Grandma, Aunt, or any other special mother in your life, just think about what will touch her heart.

You don’t have to spend a lot. Heck, you don’t have to spend hardly anything at all. Every mom just wants (and needs) to feel the love of her family in a way only her family can show. This Mother’s Day put a smile on her face. Here’s what every mom really wants this Mother’s Day.

What Every Mom Really Wants (and Needs) this Mother’s Day

Acknowledgment for Everything She Does

Motherhood is a thankless job. Day in and day out, moms rise out of bed ready to take on another day filled with cooking and cleaning, errands, an endless to-do list, and for many, the added stress of holding down a job, (not to mention all the sleepless nights she endures worrying about her kids).

Your mom may not say it, but what every mom wants this Mother’s Day is to feel appreciated and acknowledged for all that she does. Whether you look into her eyes and share a few words from the heart or write her a heartfelt letter, tell your mom what she means to you, how much you appreciate her love, guidance, and support, and how much you value and appreciate everything she does for you. Trust me on this one, she’ll carry your words in her heart forever.

A Day to Herself

Want to really surprise Mom this year? Give her a day to herself away from all the cooking, cleaning, the pile of laundry that’s waiting to be folded on the couch, and her never-ending to-do list.

Maybe she wants to venture out for a day of uninterrupted shopping, spend the day at the pool soaking up the sun, or enjoy a relaxing mani-pedi. Or, maybe an afternoon out with her girlfriends is just what she needs to refresh and regroup. Whether you give her the freedom to choose for herself or inspire her with a gift card so she can indulge in some pampering, any mom would appreciate some much-needed “me time.”

To Be Spoiled

If anyone deserves to be spoiled, it’s moms! Make your mom feel appreciated and special this Mother’s Day by showering her with things she loves. Give her a beautiful bouquet of flowers, make her breakfast in bed, make her a special dinner, buy or make her a meaningful card or gift that she’ll always cherish, give her an awesome foot or back massage, surprise her with her favorite delectable dessert or simply let her enjoy a few blissful hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Quality Time with Her Family

Some moms may be itching to get away and enjoy a few hours to themselves on Mother’s Day. Other moms crave quality family time. It doesn’t matter what you do together, as long as your mom has her whole family together for the day. (Hint: you might want to put the cell phones away.)

Go on a hike or a stroll through the woods, go on a picnic and toss the frisbee around, play a few fun games at the kitchen table, have a movie night complete with popcorn and movie-style candy, go on a bike ride or pack the car with snacks, roll down the windows and go for a long drive.

Nothing brings more joy to a mother than being surrounded by the family she loves and adores.

A Day Off from Cooking

Your mom is either planning what to cook, shopping for ingredients to cook, actually cooking, or cleaning up after cooking – either way, she’s always in the kitchen. Give mom a gift she’ll really appreciate – a day away from the kitchen!

Order a fancy meal from her favorite restaurant, (don’t forget to set the table and add a few candles for ambiance) or jump into the kitchen and take over the cooking for the day – let mom put her feet up, run a relaxing spa-style bath or sit on the porch with a glass of iced tea (or, if you’re looking for big brownie points, whip her up a fancy cocktail), and enjoy the day away from the stove, away from cooking and away from cleaning.

A Clean House

Ask any mom and she’ll tell you, keeping up with the housework gets pretty old and exhausting. And, the more kids she has, the harder it is to keep the house even remotely picked up. Chances are, the entire house is never clean at the same time, she’s never caught up on laundry and there always seems to be at least one room she never gets around to cleaning.

If you really want to put a smile on Mom’s face this year, gather up the family, grab a bucket, a mop, and a sponge, and get cleaning. Waking up on Mother’s Day to a sparkling clean house will feel like a small slice of heaven for any mom.

Homemade Gifts

If you feel like you’re too old to make a homemade card or gift for your mom, think again… you’re not!

Every mom loves gifts from her children that were made from the heart. The fun part is that there are literally thousands of cool do-it-yourself gifts that will show Mom just how much you love her!

From jewelry and homemade perfume to bath bombs made with essential oils and decorative throw pillows, the possibilities are endless. We’re loving this adorable handmade DIY floral bouquet! Check out the How-To on Frog Prince Paperie.

Moms truly are low maintenance. She’s not looking for fancy, expensive gifts.

All she really wants (and needs) is to feel appreciated and valued for all the hard work she puts into raising her kids and taking care of her family.

So, while a lavish store-bought gift is always nice (who could resist), a gift that she’ll cherish forever is a gift that truly speaks to her heart.

Happy Mother’s Day!!
