This post: My first apartment checklist – free printable
When my daughter moved out of her dorm room into an apartment her sophomore year of college, I thought it would be a breeze. After all, we had already been through the entire dorm set-up. How much more could we possibly need?
To say I was wrong is an understatement… setting up an apartment is no small task. Even if you cut a couple of corners (like most college kids do), you still need to purchase so many things!
Looking back, it would have made preparing and buying everything so much easier if my daughter and I knew exactly what she needed to buy (and what she didn’t) to set up house.
To make things a lot easier for you than they were for me, I’m sharing the comprehensive “My New Apartment Checklist” that my daughter and I created to get her set up in her new apartment. From furniture and kitchen necessities to cleaning supplies and all the extras, this handy list will make shopping for your child’s first apartment (or house) a snap!
Plus, to make it even easier, you can download our My New Apartment Checklist FREE Printable to carry with you when you hit the stores so you can check everything off your list as you go.
Just a heads up – this checklist covers more than you’ll likely need (we tried to cover everything your child will need along with a few things they might want), so don’t feel as though you need to buy everything on the list. Use this list as your guide!

My daughter just graduated and got a job 8 hrs. away. Thank you for this checklist.
You’re so welcome, Tracy! Just an FYI, use the checklist as a guide. You certainly don’t have to purchase everything on the list – we tried to think of everything new apartment dwellers might need OR want. Good luck to your daughter! How exciting! 🙂
thank you!
You’re welcome!! 🙂
using this for my daughters first apartment when she goes to college. Thank you!!!
That’s GREAT! I hope you both find it helpful! Remember… I tried to think of EVERYTHING new apartment dwellers would need OR want so don’t feel the need to buy everything on the list. Just pick and choose what’s important to your daughter. xo
