Heads up, parents… If you’re looking for an excuse to snuggle up on the couch with your teen, eat a ridiculous amount of Halloween candy, and pretend you’re not really that scared (because seriously, you have a reputation to uphold), why not hunker down and watch a silly, suspenseful, or seriously spooky movie!

Fall is in the air, Halloween is just around the corner, and there’s no better time than now to revisit a few classic Halloween movies or dive into a scream-worthy thriller that has you and your teen on the edge of your seat! We rounded up a bunch of movies your teen might just love!

A quick note for parents: Because this list ranges from lighthearted comedies to R-rated horror (for older teens), it’s worth checking each film’s rating and a detailed parent guide before movie night. Ratings alone don’t tell the whole story, and teens vary widely in what they enjoy or find frightening.

3. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) PG

Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, grows tired of doing the same thing every year. 4. The Addams Family (1991) PG-13

Remember watching The Addams Family as a kid, parents? Well, now’s your chance to enjoy a little nostalgic revisit! The wonderfully weird Addams Family gets caught up in a scheme when a man claiming to be their long-lost Uncle Fester shows up. Between Wednesday’s deadpan humor, Morticia’s iconic style, and Gomez’s over-the-top personality, this is a classic for teens who appreciate humor with a dark side.

5. ParaNorman (2021) PG

There’s plenty of ghoulish fun in this movie! Norman is a boy who can see and speak to ghosts, which doesn’t exactly help him fit in. But when an ancient curse threatens his town, his unusual ability becomes its only hope. It’s funny, creepy, and surprisingly heartfelt, with a great message about kindness and accepting people who are different.

6. Goosebumps (2015) PG

A teenager accidentally unleashes the monsters from author R. L. Stine’s famous books, and suddenly his town is overrun with creatures that should have stayed on the page. It’s a fast-paced mix of comedy, adventure, and spooky fun that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

7. Coraline (2009) PG

Seriously bored with her everyday life, Coraline discovers a secret door leading to a seemingly perfect alternate world. But the people there have buttons for eyes, and their idea of keeping Coraline is far more sinister than she expects. This movie is visually stunning and a favorite for teens who lean toward stories that are strange and a little unsettling.

8. Monster House (2006) PG

9. The Craft (1996) R (For Older Teens)

An outcast high school student befriends three girls who practice witchcraft. At first, their newfound powers seem to solve all their problems, but their experiments with magic soon lead to jealousy, conflict, and dangerous consequences. A cult favorite with 1990s teen style and a darker supernatural edge.

10. Warm Bodies (2013) PG-13

A zombie named R falls for a human girl, setting off an unexpected chain of events that begins to change the world around them. It’s a funny, offbeat take on the zombie genre, with romance, action, and a surprisingly hopeful message.

11. Ghostbusters (1984) PG

If your teen hasn’t seen this classic yet… add it to your Halloween must-watch bucket list! When a group of eccentric scientists starts a business catching ghosts in New York City, things quickly get out of hand. With memorable characters, clever humor, and iconic supernatural adventures, it’s a classic that still makes a great movie-night choice.

12. The Witches (1990) PG

A young boy discovers that a secret gathering of witches is plotting to get rid of children everywhere. When the witches discover him, he must find a way to stop their plan, but it’s not easy when you’ve been turned into a mouse. This movie is imaginative and a little darker than its fairy-tale appearance suggests.

13. Practical Magic 2 (2026) PG-13

The Owens sisters are back! Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunite as Sally and Gillian in this enchanting sequel filled with family secrets, witchy mischief, and a dark curse threatening their family. With a little mystery, a lot of magic, and plenty of Halloween atmosphere, it’s a fun pick for a spooky movie night with your teen.

14. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Talk about a Halloween blast from the past!  For so many of us, watching Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Linus wait for the Great Pumpkin was as much a part of October as trick-or-treating and eating way too much candy. Now, 60 years later (yes, SIXTY!), it’s the perfect chance to share a little childhood nostalgia with your teen and introduce them to a Halloween classic that never gets old.

15. The Haunted Mansion (2003) PG

Starring Eddie Murphy, this movie is about a family that visits a creepy old mansion and discovers it has some very unusual residents. Think ghostly hijinks, quirky characters, and classic haunted-house fun.

What begins as a strange mystery turns into a tense story about fear, family, and the possibility that something is out there. The suspense builds through what you don’t see as much as what you do.

18. A Quiet Place (2018) PG-13

If they hear you, they hunt you. In this terrifying thriller, a family must live in silence to avoid mysterious creatures that hunt by sound. 20. Casper (2009) PG

A fun classic your teen might find a little hokey, but they also might find it hard not to fall completely in love with Casper! In this movie, a friendly ghost, a mysterious mansion, and a little teenage romance make this a nostalgic Halloween favorite.

21. Carrie (1976) R (For Older Teens)

If your teen enjoys classic horror, this Stephen King adaptation is one of the most iconic supernatural thrillers ever made. It follows a shy high school student who discovers she has telekinetic powers, with terrifying consequences when things go horribly wrong at prom. It’s intense, unsettling, and best suited for older teens who can handle a much darker Halloween movie.

22. The Ring (2002) PG-13

A journalist investigates a mysterious videotape linked to a string of deaths. As she digs deeper, she discovers a terrifying connection and a race against time. With unsettling imagery and a slow-building sense of dread, this one is for teens who want a genuinely creepy movie.
